On behalf of the Knoxville Alumnae Chapter (KAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I would like to welcome you to our website. I have the honor of being KAC’s 36th president. Since its chartering in 1937, KAC has strived to serve the needs of the Knoxville and Knox County communities, we continuously uphold the sorority’s mission of public service to our communities through programs that initiate social change, encourage academic excellence and elevate cultural awareness.
Our focus and theme is “Advocating, Mentoring and Serving our Community for a better Knoxville and Knox County”. As a result, the officers and members maintain to implement programs and projects in alignment with our sorority’s Five Point Programmatic Thrust:
- Economic Development
- Educational Development
- International Awareness and Involvement
- Physical and Mental Health
- Political Awareness and Involvement
KAC is steadfast and committed to upholding the principles of our 22 founders who conceived the idea of Delta Sigma Theta sorority over 100 years ago. KAC is also committed to impacting Knox and Knoxville communities through our many projects and programs which include, but are not limited to, organizing voter registration drives and job fairs and collaborating with numerous community base organizations. We have also awarded scholarships to local high school graduates as well as mentored local youth through our Dr. Jeanne L. Noble Delta G.E.M.S. – Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully (for females ages 14-18), the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy (for females ages 10-14), and E.M.B.O.D.I. – Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence (for males 13-17) programs.
